How to plan an outstation road trip from Delhi: booking time, route, halts, permits, season and packing.

Published · Updated · By Gautam Tour Travels
Book as soon as your travel dates are fixed, ideally a few weeks ahead for popular routes. Demand for outstation vehicles rises during long weekends, school holidays, wedding season and pilgrimage seasons such as Char Dham, and early booking gives you better choice of vehicle and timing.
Last-minute bookings may still be possible, but we cannot promise a particular vehicle at short notice. Booking is by phone, WhatsApp or the website enquiry form, and we provide 24x7 phone support for any questions before and during the trip.
Share your dates, group size, route and luggage so we can recommend a vehicle. Read our outstation cab service page for the options, and call +91 98116 62936 for a free quote.
Pick the destination first, then check the approximate distance and drive time. Hill routes such as Manali, Rishikesh or Dehradun usually take longer than the distance suggests, and traffic, road work and weather can change timings, so treat any estimate as approximate.
Plan a halt every few hours for tea, meals and washroom breaks, particularly with children and elders. Decide whether you will do the trip as a same-day journey, an overnight stay or a multi-day tour. Hotels are arranged on request for packages, and you can also book your own.
If you want ideas, see Delhi to Manali, Delhi to Jaipur or Delhi to Haridwar options.
Permit requirements depend on the vehicle type, the states you enter and the nature of the trip. Tourist vehicles entering other states may need permit paperwork, and some destinations have additional entry or vehicle rules.
We assist with permit paperwork where required, so you do not need to handle the process alone. Toll, parking and state tax are typically charged as per actual unless the quote says otherwise, so ask for clarity on what is included when you compare quotes.
Tell us your full route, including stops in other states, when you enquire. Our travel permit assistance page gives more detail. We do not promise specific legal outcomes, since rules can change, so please share your plan early.
The best season depends on the destination. Hill stations are popular in the warmer months, while desert and heritage destinations in Rajasthan are generally more comfortable in the cooler months. Winter brings fog in north India, which can slow highway travel, and monsoon can cause landslides and road closures in the hills.
Check weather and road updates before you leave, and keep your schedule flexible. For Char Dham and other pilgrimage routes, the yatra season is limited and busy, so earlier booking helps.
If you are not sure when to go, tell us what you want from the trip, such as snow, temples, wildlife or relaxed sightseeing, and we can suggest suitable options from our tour packages.
Pack light and keep essentials within reach. Carry ID proofs for every passenger, a few days of medicines, a basic first-aid kit, phone chargers or a power bank, water bottles, snacks and a light jacket, since air-conditioned vehicles can feel cold on long drives.
For hill trips, add warm layers, comfortable shoes and rain protection. For pilgrimage trips, carry modest clothing and a small bag for puja items. Keep valuables with you rather than in the luggage area.
Share the number of bags with us so we can suggest a vehicle with enough space. A little extra space makes the trip more comfortable, and our tempo traveller seater guide explains how to choose a size.
After you share your plan, we give a quote based on distance, number of days, vehicle type and season. You can pay through PhonePe, Google Pay or other options on request, as agreed at booking.
Before the trip, we confirm the vehicle and driver details with you, along with the pickup time and location. Pickups are available across Delhi NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
On the day, be ready a little before the pickup time and keep the driver's number saved. If your plans change, tell us as early as possible so we can adjust. Our team stays reachable on the phone throughout, at +91 98116 62936.
